ISTD - Themed Restaurant

The brief that we had set for use was to produce branding for a themed restaurant that we had made up but all the designs had to be typographic based. The theme i choose to base my restaurant on was the ancient greek myth of 'Hercules and the twelve labors".

As the story goes the goddess Hera made Hercules lose his mind and in a confused, angry state he killed his own wife and children. When he awakened from his "temporary insanity," Hercules was shocked and upset by what he'd done. He prayed to the god Apollo for guidance, and the god's oracle told him he would have to serve Eurystheus, the king of Tiryns and Mycenae, for twelve years, in punishment for the murders.

As part of his sentence, Hercules had to perform twelve Labors, feats so difficult that they seemed impossible. By the end of these Labors, Hercules was, without a doubt, Greece's greatest hero.

I found the story so interesting i decided to base my restaurant around this myth.

Above - The logo for my restaurant. You can see it is spelt Herakles instead of Hercules, the reason for this is, the ancient greeks would spell his name Herakles and with it being themed around him i thought it would be best using the proper spelling.

Above - Corporate identity for Greek theme restaurant i.e Business card, letterhead, comp slip and direction card for location of the restaurant.

Above - A typographic piece that will be found on the wall at the end of each given table. With the myth being 12  labours the restaurant will have 12 tables. I found out through research the greeks believed each myth represented a star constellation so I used this for the base of my design. As you can see by the image the design will have the shape of the constellation in the middle which. This will be engraved/drilled into a stone pillar which will be at the end of the table (each design different for every table.) Coming off different points of the constellation is a line or two of the story ( again engraved) and runs from top to bottom of the constellation so you can follow it like a journey. Behind the pillar will be a light so when turned on the constellation shape that is drilled through the stone will let the light through and will look like stars.

Above - Shows how the food menu will look when you open it. With it being an upmarket food place I decided to make it clean an simple with the layout and colour used. Doing this gives it a feeling of class and sophistication.
